There are many events and workshops organised by Creative Fibre members including National Events (e.g. Creative Fibre Festival), Area Events (e.g.Area Education Days and Exhibitions) and Local Events (e.g.Open Days, Workshops and Retreats).  This calendar also includes some International Events.

The Art of Applied Design

The DHM Digital Gallery invites designers working with fiber to participate in 'The Art of Applied Design', an international juried competition.

All submitted works are functional objects commonly used within interior spaces, such as furnishings (hard or soft), utensils, fixtures, or containers. Objects that are purely decorative are not eligible.  Evaluation will be based upon uniqueness and creativity, craftsmanship, and quality of the submitted digital image.

The online exhibit will include e-mail addresses of accepted artists to facilitate independent sales of work.

Taieri Spinners and Weavers Open Day

'Re-use and Recycle'

Venue: Mosgiel Presbyterian Church, Church Street, Mosgiel.

Time: 9.30 am

Entry: $5 (includes morning and afternoon tea and a light lunch, goodies bag and spot prizes)

Traders, various speakers, raffles.

Competitions:

- skein of novelty yarn- min of 25 metres, any fibre, must have some recycled component

- pair of bedsocks, adult size, any pattern, recycled component optional- these will be donated to a local rest home unless you let us know that you want to keep them. the judging will be by popular vote for the bedsocks. anyone who wants to donate extra pairs is very welcome.

- the weaving competition this year is for a lady's scarf, to have some recycled component

- the Christina McKay Wells trophy competition is for a sleeveless vest, any size, open down the front, hand spun and hand knitted, at least 70% wool. to be accompanied by a 1 metre length of the yarn

All entries should be accompanied by a card with the makers name and details on one side and details of the entry on the other. (Fibre used can be something from your stash, un-knitted wool from a jersey, or just leftover bits.
