WOW Finalist
Kirsty van den Bemd (Golden Bay)
I’m a self-taught Felt Maker of approximately ten years, recently I’ve started learning new techniques and discovering my creative talents as I experiment with felting with silks fibres, and embellishments .I enjoy making a range of textiles, small wearable’s and pouches. I enjoy custom made designs, my most recent is a “fairy crown “made for a woman who does fairy party’s for children.
I decided in April (deadline for online entry), to enter the Bizarre Bra selection of the World of wearable Arts as I had an idea, to make a sculptural hand felted Brassicsas (cabbage Leaves) for a fun and eco-friendly bra. I love using wool, and silks which are natural renewable resources . I got inspiration from using home-grown remedies, and my garden with its lush greens & growth. I focused hard for approximately 2 months, designing and constructing the bra which was no easy feat!I had so much to do and just made the deadline on hand delivering my garment on June 19th.
After a month of waiting, I received confirmation my bra was accepted, and I’m a finalist!
I ‘m really looking forward to attending the WOW Show in September, and seeing all the incredibly amazing costumes on stage.
(Sorry, photo cannot be shown until after the WOW awards.)

New DVDs
“Our Spinning Jenny”
If you were not at the Northland Festival and missed out on buying this delightful and informative DVD now is your chance.
You must not miss this opportunity of spending 60 minutes with Jenny Poore in her garden, seeing her washing, sorting and handling the wool before spinning. Hearing her advice on choosing a fleece suitable for your purpose, and getting the best results with your preparation, spinning and plying will help you to create something special.
Jenny shares with us many of the tips she has learnt over the years in her gentle humorous way. It is very relaxing to spin along with her as she explains the differences between woollen and worsted spinning, the long and the short draw, how to help the fibre to run smoothly from the roving and even how to make a Rastafarian wig for your needle felted pop star!
